My attention was grabbed by the following press release from the University of Florida: New Teaching Method Improves Math Skills, Closes Gender Gap in Young Students. Third course in graduate-level number theory. Zeta and L-functions; Dedekind zeta functions; Artin L-functions; the class-number formula and generalizations; density theorems. For instance, in a discussion of methodology, "Here's how I teach word problems" is clearly more tactful and better received than "Students tell me they don't like the way you do that topic. " And, you don't need to tell your officemate that Professor Jones "can't be very competent, since he's still writing papers on..."

These students need to be exposed to discussion, and take part. Analysis leads synthesis makes the purpose of analysis clear and complete. Yet, at the same time, effects of this magnitude are also not trivial, particularly given the low cost per pupil.
