My informed* opinion about Common Core is that it is part and parcel of the effort to eviscerate the entire professional education track, and make “teaching” primarily boiler-plate “instruction” test monitoring. The option to choose enables the less able student to better demonstrate what he does know and perhaps earn a B grade, rather than risk failure because of an inability to demonstrate critical thinking.
